Fiberglass Balustrade Instructions

Instructions for installing #916 Balustrade system

1. Space, locate and bolt down aluminum post beginning with an end post and first line post. Install wood blocking at base if not done previously.

2. Slide bottom aluminum rail, legs down, thru bottom opening of piers (as shown) and bolt bottom rail between posts using small threaded rod with nut and washer at each end.

3. Sand pier flanges to ensure adhesion and apply adhesive sealant to flanges. Slide piers into position against wood blocking at base of post. Use sealant at this joint, then screw pier to blocking. Counter-sink these screws.

4. Install threaded rods thru bottom aluminum rail. Check rods for proper length to assure rods will pass thru aluminum top rail when it is installed. Use nut and washer above and below bottom rail.

5. Lower FRP bottom rail into position over top of aluminum bottom rail. Use sealant on corresponding lap joints located on piers. Pop-rivet these joints at bottom to secure. Counter-sink rivets.

6. Lower balusters over threaded rods.

7. Lower FRP top rail over threade rods and into corresponding lap joints. Use sealant at these joints.

8. Place nuts on threaded rod even with inside of FRP top rail prior to installing aluminum rail so as to protect balusters from over-tightening.

Swing aluminum top rail into pier (legs up) as far as it will go as to clear adjacent pier. Pull aluminum rail in opposite direction, lower overthreaded rods and bolting positions on posts, then secure. Place nut and washer on threaded rods and secure.

9. With sealant applied to top rail FRP cap, lower into position and secure with pop-rivets. Counter-sink these rivets.

10. With sealant applied, raise bottom FRP rail cap into position and secure as per step #9.

11. Apply pier cap in same manner.
